Treatments

Westside Physiotherapy and Hand Clinic is a full service physiotherapy clinic, offering Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Certified Hand Therapy and Acupuncture services. Job site visits and ergonomic assessments are also available.

Physiotherapy

Our philosophy is to educate our clients so they can become active participants in their recovery. We have an experienced treatment team of Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) and physiotherapists (PT), who are skilled in orthopaedics, acupuncture, and temporomandibular joint disorders. We develop active treatment programs for spinal disorders, peripheral joints, and treatment of clients injured in motor vehicle accidents (MVA).

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists (OT) help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. Services offered by our occupational therapist include ergonomic assessments, return to work planning and monitoring following an injury, job site visits (to assess whether an injured worker is able to return to work) and custom fabrication of hand and forearm splints.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment technique where fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body. This stimulates the nervous system to produce analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory substances which can be helpful in recovering from injury. At Westside Physiotherapy, David Irvine is certified to provide acupuncture treatment. David uses acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment for patients with acute or chronic musculoskeletal problems. We only use new disposable needles for each treatment session.

Sports Injuries

A wide variety of sports-related injuries can result from trauma, repetitive strain and/or biomechanical problems. At Westside, after the assessment, we use stretching and strengthening techniques as part of a customized treatment program. A sports physician consultation may be suggested if further medical investigation is necessary.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD)

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) are a group of complex problems related to the jaw joint (the term TMJ is often used to refer to these types of problems). These conditions may be the result of a number of factors, including trauma (such as a car accident, a blow to the jaw, or a fall on the chin) and overuse (such as persistent clenching of the jaw). Our philosophy includes a strong focus on educating the client about the problem as well as offering suggestions on self-care to help with recovery.

Hand Therapy

Hand therapy is a multidisciplinary treatment including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. A variety of upper extremity conditions are treated including acute trauma (crush injuries, fractures, burns, lacerations, and tendon, ligament and nerve injuries), repetitive overuse injuries (carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis) and acquired conditions (arthritis, dupuytren's contracture).
