Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment technique where fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body. This stimulates the nervous system to produce analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory substances which can be helpful in recovering from injury. At Westside Physiotherapy, David Irvine, who has been practicing physiotherapy for 26 years, is certified to provide acupuncture treatment. David uses acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment for patients with acute or chronic musculoskeletal problems. We only use new disposable needles for each treatment session.

Our treatment philosophy is to use acupuncture as an adjunct to conventional physiotherapy treatment such as postural considerations, manual therapy (joint mobilization, massage or stretching), exercise or other modalities.

  • Therapeutic uses: Relief of pain, stimulation of healing, reduction of swelling and inflammation, and muscular/general relaxation.
  • Conditions: Headaches and musculoskeletal disorders, including tendinopathies, bursitis, whiplash, low back pain and myofascial pain.
